Sheba ARC Advances Healthcare With Gaming and AI Leadership

ARC at Sheba Medical Center has appointed Sam Glassenberg, founder of Level Ex, as Head of Emerging HealthTech Initiatives.
A pioneer in medical gaming and AI, Glassenberg will lead efforts to integrate immersive technologies into clinical care, helping to develop new models for training, diagnosis, and patient engagement. This appointment marks another major step in Sheba’s mission to advance global healthcare through innovation.
A Leap Forward in ARC’s Innovation Journey
ARC, the innovation arm of Sheba Medical Center, continues to position itself at the forefront of healthcare transformation. By bringing Glassenberg on board, ARC is expanding its ability to combine gaming technology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence with practical medical applications.
“Sheba and ARC are actively shaping the future of medicine,” said Glassenberg. “I want to help however I can; specifically leveraging AI and game technology to drive this effort forward.”
Where Gaming Meets Healthcare
Glassenberg’s work applies gaming and AI directly to real‑world clinical challenges. As founder of Level Ex, a pioneering medical video game company, he has built apps used by over three million people worldwide, including more than one million clinicians. Level Ex’s games use high‑fidelity simulations and real medical cases to train physicians across specialties ranging from dermatology to cardiology.
Level Ex also develops tools for patients and caregivers. One example is Level One, a free mobile game created after Glassenberg’s own daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, designed to help families better understand and manage the condition.
From Gaming Innovation to Global Health Solutions
At ARC, Glassenberg will work closely with the newly launched AI Center, led by Dr. Ayelet Akselrod‑Ballin, to explore how simulation and AI can be combined to enhance clinical decision-making. This work has the potential to redefine how hospitals operate and how care is delivered around the world.
Under Glassenberg’s leadership, ARC will seek to integrate medical gaming into clinical workflows to accelerate physician training, boost patient engagement, and explore new therapeutic models, turning Sheba into a living lab for game‑driven healthcare innovation.
“Sam brings a unique depth of understanding at the intersection of gaming and healthcare,” said Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, Founder and Director of ARC and Chief Transformation & AI Officer at Sheba. He continues, “As ARC enters its next phase of growth, his expertise will be key to applying the principles of gaming and simulation to build smarter, more scalable solutions that benefit both patients and providers.”
Sam Glassenberg’s new role underscores ARC’s commitment to pioneering innovation with global impact. By blending gaming technology, AI, and clinical expertise, Sheba is reimagining medical training, diagnosis, and patient engagement, while shaping scalable solutions that strengthen health systems across borders. This collaboration may become a blueprint for how immersive innovation can advance healthcare worldwide.
