Innovation and Research

Sheba Medical Center is one of the most important innovators of health technology, not only in Israel, but globally.

The future of medical care is being created at Sheba Medical Center.

Through its ARC Innovation Center, Sheba leads the digital healthcare revolution and is the largest launch pad and ecosystem for healthcare innovation and development in Israel.

By challenging the status quo and transforming the standard hospital ecosystem, Sheba is ushering in a new era of seamless integration between innovators, scientists, startups, high level developers, large corporations, investors and academia – all to ultimately better serve its patients and develop breakthrough cures and treatments

Global Game-Changers

Amongst the first in the world: Sheba and National Institutes of Health (NIH) are developing a pan corona vaccine to combat future global outbreaks.

This groundbreaking collaboration between Sheba, the Vaccine Research Center, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and Sanofi aims to create a vaccine covering a range of coronaviruses.

Incubating Ideas

Sheba has created one of the world’s leading MedTech innovation platforms.

Sheba offers one of the world’s largest and best medical centers as a place to innovate and test new ideas and technologies. Against the backdrop of Israel’s entrepreneur-driven tech society, they invite inventors and entrepreneurs from around the country to come and get venture funding, mentorship, technical and scientific assistance, and a place to test their ideas and inventions.

As a result, with more than 100 start-ups in its incubator, Sheba originates 20 biomedical patent applications per year.

An example of Sheba’s creative approach is the Nexus program.

Sheba takes graduates of the most elite intelligence tech units in the IDF. The candidates are placed with physicians, therapists and other caregivers to be shadowed almost literally 24 hours a day. The IDF vets observe how the medical professionals work, what they have and what they lack.

And then they are challenged to come up with devices, software and processes that can be solutions. And when great ideas emerge, the program gives them the support, financing and direction to bring the products to market.

Innovating in fields such as big data, telemedicine, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, surgical innovation, and rehabilitation, Sheba’s goal is to rapidly introduce these advances into the market and patients’ hands as quickly as possible.

There are already high-tech medical products for retail sale in the US that were incubated at Sheba with more to come, plus those being used by hospitals and doctor’s offices.

Eytan Stibbe Became Israel’s 2nd Astronaut

Stibbe, a former fighter pilot, blasted off from Cape Canaveral aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule headed for the International Space Station.

He carried out some 35 experiments for companies and research institutions on his privately-funded “Rakia” (as it’s known in Hebrew) Mission to the ISS.

“The ARC Space Lab is a first of its kind initiative to harness the opportunities of new space endeavors to promote health care innovation and benefit humans in space and on Earth,” said Dr. Harel Baris, who heads the ARC Space Lab.
