Thank you for visiting our website! American Friends of Sheba Medical Center, Inc. (“AFSMC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) values your privacy.

This Privacy Statement describes the types of information we collect from and about you when you visit our website, use our mobile applications, interact with us by email, or engage with us at events (collectively, the “Services”). It also explains how we use and disclose that information and the choices available to you. By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Statement.

AFSMC is a 501(c)(3) public charity with a mission to change the future of healthcare, in Israel, the U.S., and around the world.

AFSMC is not currently subject to those U.S. state consumer privacy laws that exempt nonprofit organizations, including but not limited to the: California Consumer Protection Act, Connecticut Data Privacy Act, Indiana Data Privacy Law, Iowa Data Protection Act, Kentucky Data Protection Act, Montana Consumer Data Privacy Act, Nebraska Data Privacy Act, New Hampshire Data Privacy Act, Rhode Island Data Privacy Act, Tennessee Information Protection Act, Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, Utah Consumer Privacy Act and the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act. AFSMC also does not meet the threshold requirements of state consumer privacy laws that apply to nonprofit organizations including but not limited to: the Colorado Privacy Act, Delaware Personal Data Privacy Act, Florida Digital Bill of Rights, Maryland Online Data Privacy Act, Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, New Jersey Data Protection Act or the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act.

However, as a courtesy, we seek to provide transparency and offer certain rights commonly available under those laws, including the ability to:

  • Confirm whether we process their personal information
  • Access, or delete certain personal information
  • Request data portability
  • Opt out of certain data processing, including targeted advertising
  • Correct inaccuracies in their personal information, taking into account the information’s nature and processing purpose
  • Opt out of profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects
We will only use personal information provided in a verifiable opt-out request to verify the requestor’s identity or authority to make the request. Only you, or someone legally authorized to act on your behalf, may make a verifiable opt-out request related to your personal information. You may also make a verifiable consumer request on behalf of your minor child.You do not need to create an account with us to exercise your opt-out rights. We will only use and retain personal information provided in an opt-out request to review and comply with the request.

Information Collection
Geographic scope: As set forth in the Terms of Use, we provide the Services for use only by persons located in the United States. If you are using the Services from outside of the U.S., please visit your local Sheba Medical Friends website instead.
Information You Provide to Us

We collect information from you when you choose to provide it to us, including by filling in forms through the Services. This may include when you donate to AFSMC, request information from us, sign up for newsletters or our email lists, register for a conference or event, or otherwise contact us.

The information we collect may include your name, address, email address, telephone number, mobile telephone number, geolocation information, photos or videos and username. If you use a third-party service to login, link to us, or communicate with us (such as a social network or third-party video chat), we may receive certain information about you from the third party based on your registration and privacy settings on those third-party services.

If you use the Services to make donations or purchases, you may provide certain payment information, such as payment card, PayPal or other financial account information, and billing address. A third-party payment processor collects and processes that information on our behalf; we do not collect or retain your payment information.

User Generated Content

When you voluntarily disclose information about yourself in the content that you submit to us, including through the Services (such as your name, phone number, and personal email address), this information will be publicly available, can be collected and used by third parties and may result in unsolicited messages from others. Such activities are beyond our control. Please refrain from disclosing personal information on the Services that you intend to keep private.

Please also note that by submitting a public posting through the Services, we may reproduce some or all of it in our promotional materials—either elsewhere on our website, our social media, in an email, or in our newsletters.

We also may receive information about you from third parties such as Sheba Medical Center and other Friends of Sheba Medical Center organizations. If you provide us with personal information about others, or if others give us your information, we will only use that information for the specific reason for which it was provided to us. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits users of our Services who are California residents to request certain information regarding our disclosure of Personal Information to third parties for our direct marketing purposes.
