Sheba’s representation for the department of AEG surgery and head and neck surgery to Mongolia

Dr. Eran Alon and Dr. Elad Dagan from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery participated in a medical expedition to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

The delegation included about 20 doctors and staff members from the USA, France, India and Israel from the fields of ophthalmology, anesthesia and intensive care, liver and biliary tract surgery, and head and neck oncological and reconstructive surgery within the framework of the Virtue Foundation, a non-profit organization located in New York.

During the stay, the team performed about 175 surgeries in the various hospitals in Ulaanbaatar.

Dr. Alon and Dr. Dagan were assigned to the Oncology Hospital in Ulaanbaatar, the only center in Mongolia for oncological surgery and complementary oncological treatment, with the aim of performing oncological surgeries and reconstructions in the field of head and neck oncology, teaching advanced surgical techniques and enriching the local knowledge in the field.

During the week, a wide variety of surgeries were performed to remove tumors in the salivary glands, the thyroid gland, the jaws, the oral cavity and the neck. All surgeries were performed jointly with the dedicated local team while learning new and innovative techniques. The dedication of the local staff at the hospital is inspiring, given their inexhaustible motivation to study and outstanding empathy for patients.
